A 19-year-old man is in the Rock Island County Jail after police responded to reports of gunshots in the city yesterday, according to a news release from the Rock Island Police Department.

Officers responded to the 1500 block of Fifth Street on February 5 at about 1:46 p.m. after receiving reports of gunshots fired. When they arrived, they found evidence of shots having been fired, but they didn’t find any victims or property damage, the release said.

Video surveillance in the area showed two groups of people who were involved in an altercation and shots were fired between them. The people ran away from the area and some ran to an address in the 400 block of 4th ½ Street. Nearby witnesses pointed out a possible suspect vehicle leaving the scene.

Officers performed a traffic stop on a black Hyundai and detained several people inside, including 19-year-old Anthony Hereford-Warren, who was found to have a loaded handgun and about one pound of suspected cannabis packaged for sale. Hereford-Warren was charged with armed violence and was taken to the Rock Island County Jail to await an initial appearance, according to the release.

The incident remains under investigation by the Rock Island Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division and no further information is currently available.
