You can raise a glass on Wednesday and help raise money for a special Moline Public Library project.
A “Blooms & Brews” fundraising event will be held at Pour Bros. Craft Taproom, 1209 4th Ave., Moline, on Wednesday, March 6, with Pour Bros. donating 10% of sales all day from 3 p.m. to midnight for the $1.5-million Moline Library Gardens project.

Between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m., there will be a raffle and prizes that people can win or bid on, all gifts from local establishments for your favorite restaurants, coffee shops, music and sporting events, and more. There will also be a food truck to enjoy.
The library gardens project cost is about $1.5 million and the library has met 90% of its fundraising goal, said library development manager Callahan Herrig.
The planned Gardens – south of the library at 3210 41st St. — includes walking paths, landscaping, a small outdoor stage, shaded meeting areas and a 16-panel interactive “story loop.”

This past summer, library director Bryon Lear said momentum for the project began in late 2021, after the Library Board finally purchased the approximately one-acre parcel that had a single-family home and a few other structures on it.
When those structures were demolished in 2022, what to do with the now available extra space became part of the Library Board’s strategic planning sessions.
“We held focus groups and a community survey to gather ideas from the public on how they’d like to see us use the space,” Lear said. “The majority said they’d like to see green space and gardens as well as additional programming spaces.”

Herrig said the library hopes to begin construction in the coming months, and to have most of the work completed by October.
